Assoc. Prof. Özden Gür Ali - Harvard Business Review (HBR) Interview
The interview regarding the research completed by Assoc. Prof. Özden Gür Ali of the Department of Business Administration at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economics, along with Emrah Yılmaz, has been featured in this month's Harvard Business Review (HBR) magazine. Additionally, the interview has been published on the website of the magazine, which is accessible to online members.
The published research examined the effectiveness of managers' risky decisions through football coaches’ decisions. All player substitution decisions over eight seasons in six leagues was used to model the effect of risky substitutions on match outcomes with Causal Machine Learning and Explainable AI methods. Findings include that younger managers’ risk-taking effectiveness is at least as good as, if not better than, older managers, and that the performance increases as the manager’s experience with the team grows, but decreases with longer tenure.
